Pissed off!!

My husband is going to be 30 in October so i wanted to do something really nice and have a surprise dinner party at a restaurant called 19 19. Its a new restaurant but the owner had a really upscale restaurant in Cape May for a lot of years. Anyway, i called to come in and talk about the menu ect..I recognized the guy. I had seen him at my oncologist's office. (i thought anyhow).

I didn't want to say "did you have cancer?" so i just asked him if he ever been to dr. dave's office. He said yes and turns out he had pancreatic cancer 2 years ago. So of course as two survivors we chatted a lot about that.

I booked the party and gave him $1000. A few days later my mother-in-law called and said that she heard that the restaurant was in trouble. I called Neil the owner and said that i was hearing some stuff and was now worried. He said that "yes, they were having financial problems but that he wouldn't have taken my money if the restaurant was going to close". he said he wouldn't screw anyone, especially a fellow cancer survivor. so i hung up. he said i could have my money back if i wanted.

Still feeling a bit uncomfortable i called back and said that i did want my money back because i didn't feel like worrying all month. He gave me some attitude but said i could come get a check. i did. i went straight to the bank and he didn't have enough funds to cover it. i went back again to the restaurant. He was too much of a coward to come down and face me and had a worker tell me to come back on Monday for cash. (this was last wed). well, the state shut him down on Thursday. 

He had given me his cell phone number so i kept calling him...what a jerkoff. he totally stole my money. He knew that he was getting shut down!!

ps. i told earle everything and we are just going to have a party here instead.

that totally sucks! what a coward and a jerk! i'm so sorry he stole your money and ruined the surprise party. i think it's great that you posted his phone number!

What a loser! I clld from down here in Houston and he told me he was at school with his kids, that he'd never cheat anyone out of anything and that I was welcome to email him (???) with any issues.
