Are you being metaphorical? Dead, as in spiritually dead?

No, dead as in passed on, no more, ceased to be, expired, gone to meet his maker, a stiff, bereft of life, rests in peace, pushing up the daisies, kicked the bucket, shuffled off this mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!
And really, if you need to ask what on earth I could be referring to, perhaps you should spend more time reading modern western history and less and less spout off ignorant and ill-formed opinions.
